A gentle manual therapy technique aimed at improving the functioning of the internal organs, or viscera, within the body, thereby restoring balance and promoting overall health and well-being.
Visceral Manipulation (VM) is a gentle hands-on therapy that aids the body in releasing restrictions and imbalances that lead to pain and dysfunction. Unlike conventional treatments that target only the symptoms, VM assesses the entire body to identify the root cause of the issue.
The goal of VM is to restore and optimize proprioceptive communication within the body, improving its internal mechanisms for better health. By doing so, VM revitalizes individuals, alleviating symptoms of pain, dysfunction, and poor posture. It addresses a wide range of imbalances affecting the musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urogenital, respiratory, digestive, and lymphatic systems.
Central to VM is the concept that tissues possess innate intelligence, storing information from past experiences like injuries, illnesses, and stressors. Practitioners “listen” to these tissues using manual techniques to identify areas of restriction and impact on overall well-being.
Developed by French osteopath Jean-Pierre Barral, VM employs gentle pressure and mobilization techniques applied to various body areas, including the abdomen, pelvis, and chest. By targeting restrictions in connective tissues, fascia, muscles, and ligaments, VM aims to enhance organ function, circulation, and pain relief.
This holistic therapy complements conventional treatments and is beneficial for various conditions such as digestive disorders, pelvic pain, musculoskeletal issues, and post-surgical adhesions
The goal of Visceral Manipulation is to help the person’s body return to normal function and thereby remove compensatory symptoms, whatever their source, leading to improved health and optimal body functioning.
